[HCH] A Day Early Newsletter and July's Bible Reading Schedule

Jul 01, 2020 2:01 am

Hello lovely ladies,

I'm writing to you a day early for two reasons...

First, I need to share the new Bible reading schedule. Secondly, a dear lady in our church went home to be with Jesus last Friday evening. Our church is going to have a home-going service for her tomorrow. I'll be helping in the kitchen and attending the service. Not sure how my schedule will end up for the afternoon, so I'm sending out my newsletter today.

Last week (my mini furlough) was a real adventure. We ended up traveling to see my parents. My husband was able to teach adult Sunday school and lead the songs. This helped my dad (who is a pastor) because he has a disease that leaves him very weak, and the man who was suppose to teach S.S. was sick. We also helped on Saturday with some tasks.

Last Monday (22nd), we headed home. We broke down about 13 miles away from my parents' house. Ended up having to tow our car back to their house. Let's just say, it was a long day, but I couldn't help but be so grateful for God's goodness. We could have broken down in the middle of nowhere and been left stranded for a long while and a costly tow expense. God was sure watching over us!!! Thank you, so much, Heavenly Father!  A mechanic friend of my dad's came to take a look that evening. We got back on the road and finally home.

(It broke down again this last Sunday, and is now in the car repair shop, so please pray we can get to the root of the problem and get it fixed.)

We made huge progress with painting our house. We didn't accomplish everything we wanted to, but baby steps forward is still progress. Amen!?!

Change of subject....

God will ALWAYS use His Word to guide, so I want to encourage you to always stay in God's Word. This is a stressful week for me, right now, with several things going on, but I can tell you --- my morning time with the LORD is an encouragement and helps me face the day.

When I was young, I wanted to serve the Lord, but I still was not fully dependent on God's Word for my main source of spiritual nourishment and encouragement. What it took for me to get to that point is to work on creating a daily habit of reading God's Word at a set time.

The more I read my Bible, the more I have a "true desire" to read it. God's Word truly grows on us, and also helps us grow spiritually.

Start off small....and build your way up. Each year, you can work on reading just a bit more. The main thing you want to do right now is to simply create a daily habit of reading.

If you're just starting out or recently accepted Jesus as your Savior, try reading a chapter each day from the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and also read through I, II, II John, Psalms and Proverbs). Then, try to make a start in the Old Testament, starting in Genesis.

Baby steps forward is progress for your spiritual growth!

Here's this month's schedule. You can download it, but remember, you can also simply bookmark it and print off whatever pages you want. You don't have to print the whole thing.

7 Tidbits from my journal: (Use these ideas for your journal or ministry)

Through your demeanor and attitude, let others see God's Word working through you.

Love with all your heart; if not, you have failed to love at all.

"God's Word separates truth from error, right from wrong; and it does so very clearly, very explicitly." Refreshing Daily in God's Word, June 2020 issue

"Life is not about finding more time, but using the time we do have more wisely." - Pastor Don Ohm (*See Ephesians 5:5-16)

The ONLY book people ask for when they are hurting is God's Word.

Jesus isn't looking for you to be like other Christians, He's looking for you to be like Him.

QUESTION: Do my actions give evidence that I am continually meditating on God's Word?

Today's Tidy Up Tips: 6 Things to Do Each Summer

Summer is usually associated with fun, family time, and vacations. However, even during these months, there are important chores and tasks to complete. To help you enjoy the summer more, here are a few activities you may want to go ahead and schedule in your summer decluttering & organizing calendar.

Go Through Your Clothing – Now is the perfect time to go through your fall, winter and early spring clothing. What did you never wear because it had an unremovable stain, no longer fit well or was too worn out? You can donate them or have a garage sale. (Or sell online.)  You can also make a list of what you’re going to need by fall time, and do any repairs on clothes that need mending.

Go Through Toys – Since most kids want to play outside right now, going through the inside toys is an excellent idea. Everything in the toy boxes should be emptied, sorted, washed, and then either returned to their home, donated, or sold. Doing it now is easier because playing inside isn’t as attractive in the summer.

Vacuum & Turn Your Mattress – Depending on the type of mattress you use; you may need to turn them. This is a good time to do it. Even if you don’t turn or “flip” the mattress, you need to keep it as clean and dust-free as possible. A good way to meet this goal is to vacuum your mattresses well. Another tip for freshening up your mattress is to put it out in the sunshine for a few hours.

Clean Pillows and Stuffed Toys – While you change your pillowcases, most people never wash their pillows. However, many pillows are washable. Yours may have different instructions, but for the most part, washing them and then drying them normally works fine. Stuffed toys may be harder to deal with, so some of them may have to be tossed. They all collect many germs that you must get eradicate occasionally. Putting the stuffed animal in a bag with baking soda for awhile and then giving it a gentle brushing over often helps. For stains, you might try to carefully do a spot removal with a damp cloth and a tad of gentle detergent.

Check Flooring, Tile & Counters – If you have grout in various areas, summer is a great time to check and fix it. The hotter weather will make things dry faster. You can even check your siding and brick outside to make quick repairs of small cracks. The more quickly you fix this, the fewer problems you’ll have with it later.

Clean Your Car – Summer is also a perfect time to clean and detail your car. You probably should do this each season. You can do it yourself on a beautiful sunny day, or you can outsource this. There are services that will even come to your place of work and do it there.

Planning tasks on your calendar to do seasonally is an effective way to ensure that you set aside the time to get important tasks done. Some of them will not take that long. In fact, the more you stick to your schedule, the less time everything is going to take because it won’t be as dirty or cluttered.
