[HCH] Before the Christmas Frenzy and Digital Organization Tips

Dec 03, 2020 4:47 am

Hello busy ladies,

Can you believe that we are now at the end of 2020? Seriously, the year was the longest ever — and at the same time, it seems to have drifted by in it’s own rapid pace at times.

I’m getting ready to whip up a new Christmas organizational printable. My old laptop is slow as a snail stuck in molasses, and it’s been clicking an annoying noise for over a week.

Thankfully, I snagged a new laptop deal on that Black Friday sale. As much as I hate that term “Black Friday” which is so opposite of the attention of Thanksgiving the day before, I surely am thankful for the savings in a time of need.

In saying all of that, I have a lot of work on my plate to transfer a ton of files and install my software tools onto my new laptop. It’s been exhausting, but at the same time, the modern technology of “synching” between devices has simplified a lot from the past when I had to replace a laptop years ago. For that, I’m extremely grateful.

You and I can always find something for which to be grateful for among those overwhelming moments or even during heart-wrenching circumstances in life…

What is one small thing that’s been a blessing for you today? Don’t let the push for the Christmas frenzy allow you to forget your focus on thankfulness and a heart of gratitude.

In ending my personal chat today, what is a Christmas tradition you have with your family? I’d love to hear your own tradition. Perhaps I can incorporate some new ideas for my family.

One for us is the day after Thanksgiving, we take down the fall decor; pour egg nog, listen to Christmas music or watch a Christmas film, and decorate the tree.

Today's Tidy Up Your Life : Reduce Digital Clutter and Manage Files

File organizing is a must if you want to work stress-free on your laptop, computer or mobile phone.

Going through your phone’s photos on a weekly basis can keep your storage capacity from being depleted; plus you can easily find all your favoites by taking away the unwanted images.

If you’re stuck in traffic or waiting for an appointment, you can zip out your phone and delete old photos, blurry photos and photos that no longer hold any interest.

You can take that a step further by organizing photos into categories.

On your computer or laptop, you can right-click on a file folder, select “properties,” then “customize,” there, you can select “change icon.” You’ll see a selection of other icons to change up your file images instead of the standard folder.

If you love a variety of colors like I do for organization, try Folder Colorizer. You can even create your own customized color schemes.  (They’re having a sale right now - I get no commission for sharing it, I just like the product and thought I’d share the resource with you.

Another thing I like to do is use numbers to order my folders. My Windows system will put them in the order I like by using numbers.  (Your Windows also has some built-in features to customize your folder viewing, but this is just the way I like to do it.)

A quick example for my folder titles:

01 - Monthly Projects

02 - Printable Templates

03 - HCH Community

One additional idea is that inside of “Monthly Projects” folder, I like to do the same thing with the months of the year inside this folder.

A quick example:

01 - January

02 - February

03 - March

I know these ideas are super simple, but perhaps they will be a help to you.
