Reflections from the Land
Just a few days on the land and we accomplished so much already! Our build team arrived the first few days - followed by several of our future residential members of the Haven Village.
The first five days were spent with the previous land steward learning everything we could about the land. We are grateful for the partnership and to have him as a future faculty of the Haven Earth Trade School.
Part of this first week was to take a full inventory of the land and we invited local and guest experts to share their wisdom including Graham (one of the top permaculture designers for Food Forest Abundance) and Steven (our neighbor 5 mins down the road from Nature's Always Right) for our member talk.
Our work on the land for this first phase in Zone One included bushhogging and land clearing which was very overgrown, various deliveries of lumber and gravel, as well as multiple dumpster pickups. We rediscovered the two hoop houses, cleaned the existing workshop space and fields that had some buried treasures and lots of rubbish. Some basic safety measures including a new set of steps and railings for front porch, dismantling the front garden for the future garden design, set up the first star tent and our big accomplishment was building the first deck for one of the five glamping cabins in the builder village!
In the hot afternoons, we took off to explore the area's local river and lake spots, shared meals and reflections from the day...mostly to rejuvenate from the day's exhaustion so we could wake up and do it again. We said a bittersweet goodbye for our last trek to Texas to move the Tiny Hemp Home, our Hemp Mixer, Hurd & Wool along with the last of our belongings and will be back in Tennessee the beginning of September.
We are excited to invite others to our first event to activate the land on September 22-24th with a Vastu Talk and Bhumi Puja Ceremony and other special events to celebrate our new home. We will be welcoming guests, workshop participants and potential residents in the Fall - and still have a few positions for skilled builders -you can fill out an application here
