When's the last time your started your motor?

Hi , how are you? What have you been up to? Us? We're finalizing our summer plans. The southern states are nice in the winter, but not so much in the summer.

Are you planning to move soon? When's the last time you turned your motor over? For some, it's a silly question as they tow their rig, drop it, then take their towing vehicle (tow-er?) into town. But for those in larger class A's or --ahem-- skoolies, they may tow their daily driver and their home motor could sit idle for weeks, months, or years! Eventually, all the oil in these idle motors sinks down to the pan. This leaves the cylinders exposed to air and moisture that could lead to rust, as well as rough wear when the motor fires up again.

When we set up for a long-term stay (more than a few weeks), the first thing we do is set ourselves reminders to run the bus every two weeks for at least 30 minutes. This keeps the inside of the motor lubricated and prevents the need to extend stays to take care of costly repairs.
