Instagram LogoI'd love to hear your stories on this day to honor or remember your Father! #HappyFathersDay #FathersDay Get ready...this is a long one, and I've cut it down to about 1/3 of what it was before, lol. Anyway, I got a chance to speak with my dad this morning, and the more I'm reading the posts and social interactions today, I'm realizing more and more what an incredibly terrific privilege that was and still is. People have been writing these long, heart-wrenching posts and even singing about missing their fathers all weekend, and man, this stuff is heartbreaking. I'm starting to tear up right now, just thinking about it again... πŸ˜₯πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜’ PHEW...deep breath. In fact, tbh, it's taken me most of the day to get this post out. I don't think that's because I have complicated feelings about my dad - love my dad to pieces - but after a lifetime, there is SO much to say, and the editing is a lot more intense. I've got more on the cutting room floor in this post than a Hollywood film <ahem> After I became a father myself and went through some of the same challenges and experiences my dad went through, it really helped me to zoom out a little more and recognize just how awesome of a job my dad did in maintaining a stable home for my sister and me and working with my stepmom Mrs. Ann to raise us kids, especially under the circumstances. As I'm writing this (and this opens up a much larger topic I will hold for another day), my dad also taught me "not to let the sun go down while I was angry" (Ephesians 4:26), to show respect to my elders, and to NEVER, EVER lie. He encouraged me to have a daily devotional, which lead me to read Ecclesiastes, Psalms, and the Proverbs, and pretty much the whole Bible, a chapter and book at a time. That bit of advice has changed my life in countless ways. Some of the best advice my dad probably ever gave me was, "Call your dad!" I think I'll do that again soon. What saying did your dad have or advice did he give that shifted your perspective? If you or I think of any more, let's post them in the comments, more than one is ok! 😊 #fathersday #juneteenth #marketingagency #dads #bestadvice #familyagency
