My Musings
Dogs are interesting creatures. If you’ve ever owned a dog or dogs, you’ll know that each of them are unique creatures with their own personalities. Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed a couple of peculiar behaviors from mine.
Orson, my beagle, will go through phases where every morning, no matter what time we get up, will have to find an item, usually a blanket, towel, sock, other article of clothing, or a stuffed animal, and carry it downstairs. If he can’t reach the item he wants, he will stare at it until you give it to him. He’ll refuse to carry anything other than the specific item he wants.
Olivia, our schnauzer mix, on the other hand, rushes downstairs as soon as I open the doggie gate. She grabs one of my wife’s flip-flops, shakes it like it’s some prey, and flings it to a random part of the house. This makes finding her flip-flops very interesting for my wife in the morning!
Anyhow, while these are strange behaviors, they make me smile every time. That, I think, is really cool! How about you? Do you have any funny pet stories? If so, I’d love to hear them.
Mechhaven Missives
- Work absorbed the vast majority of my mental focus and capacity throughout August, leaving little time or energy for creativity. September is looking up though... I'm starting a three-day weekend and have a much needed vacation coming up later in September. It's been almost as difficult for me to get to writing the final battle in Book 5 as it has been for the characters to get to the battle itself! I hope to have more to share in the next couple of newsletters.

Last time I checked, GUNS are not CHEESE!
John MacAlister, a former Star Corps pilot, is desperate for his first job as a freelance smuggler to pay the bills. With few options, he reluctantly reaches out to Georgio, a charismatic but dangerous kingpin on the Moon, hoping to secure a deal that could keep him afloat. Despite his better judgment, John takes the job, knowing it could be his only shot at getting started.
But things quickly take a dark turn when John discovers that Georgio has secretly stashed illegal guns in his cargo shipment, putting John at serious risk just as he’s trying to find his footing. Now, John must navigate the treacherous situation, realizing that his first job might also be his last if he can’t outmaneuver the man who’s already set him up for a fall.
"Dischord" is the gripping and fun prequel to the sci-fi adventure John and Alvis Sessions series!

A smuggler in the wrong place. An ancient alien technology. Now, everyone is after him.
Kai Fletcher thought he could go straight, until he couldn’t. And when his last "last" job goes wrong, he finds himself stowed away in a starship belonging to an alien crime syndicate.
Forced into servitude to pay the debt for passage off world, Kai bargains with the syndicate. All he has to do is help them rob the Vakness Empire, the most powerful alien empire in known space, and he gets to go home.
Easy Peasy. Until it isn’t.
