Focus and gratitude

Hi ,

One of the first mini exercises that I like to do when I speak to people about transformation and going deeper into the journey of discovering who we are, is asking the following 3 questions.

Do you tend to focus on more on things that you have or things that you don't have?

Do you focus more on past , present or future?

Do you spend more time focusing on things that you can control or things that you cannot control?

For most people that never did inner work, the answers are the same.

Focusing on things that are lacking, situations from the past and dreading over things outside of their control.

This is a pretty bad set of default settings if you ask me, but what's worse is that we are never taught that we can change it. We accept it and continue to live a life of what I call silent suffering (Its not bad enough to do something about it but its not good enough to enjoy it fully).

The catch here is that what you focus on in the world, you tend to find more of.

If you are constantly saying "I don't have time", " poor me", "I wish I had that...", then that is exactly what you bring in to your focus.

You find the excuses on every step of the way that prove that you indeed don't have time for all the cool things you want to do.

You find plenty of evidence where you are the victim of situations and become paralyzed from moving forward.

And maybe the most common one is comparing what you have with others, and its a game that you can never win, because there is always more to obtain, learn or experience. After all, comparison is a thief of joy.

However, once you become aware that all these things are just thought patterns that you reinforced every day for 10,20,30 years, it becomes obvious that you could also try to implement something else instead.

How about focusing on everything that you actually do have?

All the good people in your life, the health, the good food and roof over your head...

Becoming more present and enjoying what is in front of you rather than daydreaming about the future or dreading over the past.

And lastly, letting go of things that are completely outside of your control, and spending effort on what you can actually change, such as redirecting your focus on things that you would like to experience more of.

All that being said, one of the most powerful emotions that you can bring up is gratitude. If you start to focus on things that you are grateful for, you will continue to see more things that you can be grateful for. Its not a trick or some new age gimmick. It is how our minds work, and we are the ones that get to choose how we use them.

Today, I am grateful to have time to write this post and to have you read it.

I am grateful that I have an outlet where I can share my thoughts and experiences with hopes to make a small dent in your life, where more light can start to enter.

I also have a new website up and running and if you feel called to, you can check it out. Feedback is much appreciated!
