One of the fastest ways to improve as a writer

Hey precious,
Hope you're having a fabulous Saturday.
Today, I'm going to do exactly what it says on the tin.
(Or in this case, the email subject line)
I'm going to show you one of the fastest ways to improve your writing.
Sorry darling, but it’s not sexy.
And to be honest with you, it’s not easy either.
BUT, it is the fastest way to get better at almost anything.
What is it?
Well, I call it
Influential Emulation.
Let me explain.
A long long time ago, before The Beatles became The Beatles, they weren’t writing timeless music.
I know it's hard to believe given how Godlike they became as artists.
But at one point, they were a glorified cover band, playing songs written by Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and every other American music they could get their hands on.
The Fab Four didn’t start by being original.
They started by imitating greatness.
Same with Hendrix.
Same with Tarantino.
Same with anyone worth studying.
They didn’t skip straight to style.
They obsessed over structure, rhythm, timing, and tone — until it became second nature to them.
And you, my dear, can do the same with writing.
Here’s how to do it:
- Pick a writer you admire.
- Pick a piece they wrote that made you feel something.
- Break it down. Study the pacing, the tone, the structure, the sentence flow.
- Then try to recreate the same feeling and effect — not the same words.
- Compare. Refine. Repeat.
This is how you internalise world-class technique in record time.
Now let's talk about why most writers plateau:
They consume passively and assume their output will improve automatically.
Newsflash:
It won’t.
These dudes are nothing but dabblers.
While you, my dear, are sharpening your samurai sword.
You’re training your brain to think like a pro, until eventually, it doesn’t need training anymore.
Think of Influential Emulation as your training wheels period before being able to ride on your own two wheels.
Hope this brings you one step closer to becoming a certified beast.
If you want to fasttrack your progress, this is definitely something you should try.
