Did you choose to be a creator?

Bonjour,
Dear reader:
Be honest with me.
Does one choose to become a creator?
Does one choose to:
- Obsess over half-finished thoughts,
- Scream and shout into an endless void,
- And pursue mastery in a craft without any guarantee of success.
Of course not.
What you and I are doing is completely illogical.
We didn’t choose this.
It chose us.
Maybe it started as a whisper.
An itch we were desperate to scratch.
Or maybe, more cynically, we were copying what others were doing because some part of us wanted to be like them.
Either way, our mind always had a strange little whisper that kept saying:
“Make stuff, moron.”
You ignored it for a while, just like I did.
Ego got in the way of the muse and trapped her in a glass jar.
Instead, we went back to doing something "normal".
Something predictable and safe.
But no matter how hard we tried, the muse was always strong enough to escape.
She wouldn't stop telling us to make things.
To create.
To write.
Not because it was the path to never-ending riches, cocktail parties, arousing orgies.
But because it's something we've been chosen to do.
And no matter how hard we try to ignore it, our strength pales in comparison to the pull of destiny.
Here's the thing:
The desire to create is not a job title or a career.
It's a calling.
Some tortured souls may consider it a curse, Beethoven and Van Gogh spring to mind.
While to others, it's seen as nothing short of a gift.
For whatever reason my dear email subscriber, we've been assigned a mission.
And that mission is simple:
Go from 0 to 1.
Turn nothing into something, and expand consciousness as much as you can.
Don't you see?
There is no job application for this role.
There are no credentials you need or university degrees necessary.
You either get it or you don't.
And with that said, there's only one thing left to do:
Create.
Whether it be through writing, speaking, moving, or singing.
Create - and answer your calling.
Ciao mi amor,
Godfrey
