Self-awareness ≠ self-improvement

I was doing some contemplation earlier.

Thought I'd share it with you.

I realised something most people get wrong:

Self-awareness isn’t the same as self-improvement.

Self-awareness is knowing what you are.

Not what you want to be.

Not your curated identity.

Not the ego you hide behind online.

It’s seeing the raw material clearly.

But here’s the paradox:

Before you can dissolve the ego…

You have to build a really good one.

At least, that's what Carl Jung believes to be the case.

Spend the first half of life developing your ego.

And the second half of life achieving self-realization, which involves integrating the conscious and unconscious parts of yourself.

That’s why writing online is powerful.

Every piece you publish is an act of ego construction.

A public mirror.

You build it, shape it, and sharpen it.

And eventually, you're able to see through it.

Only then can you choose what to keep…

And what to throw away in the fire.

Not only that, writing is a practice that can help the unconscious become conscious.

In short, keep writing.

You’ll find out who you really are.

Talk soon,

Godfrey
