How To Get Lucky

Mar 26, 2024 7:47 am

And no, I’m not talking about anything sexual.

Although, I don’t see why this trick won’t work in that arena either.

I’m simply talking about luck.

Most people believe they’re chronically unlucky.

I’m here to change that.

Let’s talk about how to get lucky.

First off, I want to address the elephant in the room:

Is luck real?

In some ways, yes.

In other ways, no.

Let me explain.

I’m sure you’d agree that someone born in a slum is less lucky than someone

born to a billionaire, right?

Cool.

The problem is, this luck is completely uncontrollable.

You have zero control over who your parents are.

Therefore, complaining about it is completely redundant.

You have to ignore this kind of luck.

It’s completely unhelpful.

You didn’t control where you grew up.

You didn’t control what city you were born in.

You didn’t control what school your parents sent you to.

All of these things definitely played a part in creating who you are today.

Some of these decisions may have led to less favourable outcomes than other people.

Fine, they were luckier than you.

But how does that help you?

Newsflash:

It doesn’t.

Now that I’ve covered that, let’s talk about how you can create luck regardless of your past circumstances.

In short, luck is created through relentless action in the pursuit of a goal.

Read that again.

Even lottery winners create their own luck.

Their relentless pursuit of trying to win the lottery inevitably led them to find luck.

Most lottery winners spend decades buying tickets before they win.

Are they smart for doing so?

Debatable.

But make no mistake about it, the ones who eventually win are creating their own luck.

They’re just playing a game where the odds are heavily against them.

But you’re not trying to win the lottery (at least I hope you’re not).

You’re looking to create luck in other areas of your life.

Here’s a quick way to do it:

Perspective shifting.

When you realise that waking up to live another day is a blessing, you’ll begin to feel lucky for even existing.

There are 8 billion people alive today.

Do you know how many are dead?

According to the Population Reference Bureau , 108 billion.

And do you know how many of those people had access to the internet?

Barely any.

A miniscule fraction.

The fact that you’re alive right now is one of the luckiest gifts you could have ever asked for.

It’s easy to forget this nowadays.

People are riddled with anxieties and insecurities, they have no idea that feeling

those things are gifts in themselves.

If you weren’t anxious or insecure, you’d be dead!

Is being dead better than being alive?

I don’t know.

All I know is, it makes sense to enjoy consciousness while we have it.

Next, I want to talk about the excuse of luck.

This happens a lot online.

Some guy in a basement somewhere will always criticise someone successful and say they’re just lucky.

This is dumb.

Do you think the people who’ve found success just woke up with it?

Oh look, I’m rich now!

Rubbish.

As Seneca said:

Luck is where opportunity meets preparation”.

What does he mean by this?

Simply put, luck becomes a likely outcome when you’re prepared for potential opportunities.

Let me give you an example.

If you post 500 videos on YouTube and one of them goes viral, did you get lucky?

Some would say certainly.

I wouldn’t.

By posting 500 videos, you are preparing yourself for the prospect of finding

luck.

Making 500 videos is hard.

It takes a lot of time and dedication.

With each video, the person is getting better and better.

This preparation combined with the unique opportunity will eventually create luck.

It’s common sense.

The more times you swing the bat, the more likely you are to smash the ball.

Lastly, let’s talk about people being blessed with a lucky gene.

This is obviously nonsense.

But instead, you can do what my grandad does.

For as long as I can remember, he’s always called himself a “lucky guy”.

He’s affirmed this so much over the years.

So much so, I’m convinved his subconscious mind has internalised it as gospel.

He’s 92 years old now and hasn’t had any health issues whatsoever.

While most people his age (that are alive) are spending all day in bed, he’s out

planting potatoes and baking cakes for his neighbours.

He basically brainwashed himself to believe that he’s extremely lucky.

And as a result, every time something goes his way, he always expresses gratitude for how lucky he is.

You can do this too.

It’s not woo-woo.

It’s real.

If you really want to be lucky, believe you’re lucky.

Do it long enough and your brain will just begin to spot patterns that affirm your beliefs.

Will this make you a millionaire?

Not by itself.

But if you work pursue an outcome with enough preparation, you’ll be

presented with lucky opportunities.

It’s that simple.

To conclude, stop complaining about your lack of luck.

I’ve shown you why you actually are lucky (you’re alive).

And I’ve also shown you how to become lucky (brainwash yourself).

Do both of these things and you’ll attract more luck than Lucky Luke.

I hope you found this useful,

Godfrey
