Hi ,
The Guam Education Board Looks to End Cohorts for All Grade Levels
The Guam Education Board (GEB) looks to end cohorts for all grade levels by moving to 100% face-to-face instruction by Monday, November 29, 2021. The school community is advised to pay close attention to the next GEB meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 6 PM via https://www.facebook.com/DOEGuam.
Part of keeping everyone safe is to ensure full vaccination. The 5-12 year old group of students had the opportunity to receive the vaccine starting October 30 in Guam. That means the first batch just started their second dose for full vaccination, and full vaccination is not immediately expected for a majority of students who received their first dose. We would rather the timeline come from public health than GEB to see when most students who are partially vaccinated can be fully vaccinated.
The GEB is rushing to open schools with safety as an afterthought. For those who want to be vaccinated, we are so close to achieving full vaccination status for elementary and middle school children. Let them get the peace of mind of knowing they are fully vaccinated before we overcrowd the schools again.
Officers of GFT have been in communication with Superintendent Jon Fernandez and the GDOE management team on the possibility of a safe return to 100% attendance for high school students and then elementary and middle school students starting in December and January, respectively. These discussions were guided by timelines on how soon the children can receive their vaccination shots.
