Many people have died with their gifts inside of them because of their Underestimated Time Syndrome. If we're not careful, the same thing could happen to you or me. So, what is Underestimated Time Syndrome? Let me explain.

19-Year-Old Underestimated Time Syndrome

While working out at the gym, I saw a 19-year-old named Cedric. He was a former student that I had when I substitute taught at a school. I walked up to him and asked, "Now that you have graduated from high school, what are you doing with your life?" "To be honest, I'm not doing much at the moment besides working. I'm still living with my parents and trying to figure things out.? "Did you not have a plan for what you wanted to do when you graduated from High School?" "Actually I did. I want to be a firefighter." "Oh yeah, have you been pursuing it?" "No." "Why not?" "Because I'm only 19, and I still have a lot of time left in life."

I’ve heard many individuals say they aren’t going after what they want in life because they feel like they have plenty of time to do so. They battled with the Underestimation Time Syndrome and I could tell Cedric was too.

Time Belief Test

I decided to test Cedric's belief about time, so I said, "How do you know you have a lot of time left?" "It's obvious," he replied. "I'm only 19. I've got my whole life ahead of me." "Cedric, it's impossible to know how much time you have left on this earth. Your age doesn't promise you anything. In fact, about 4 weeks ago, a 16-year-old student died in a car wreck. If that individual was younger than you and time wasn't promised to her, what makes you think you have so much time?" "That's a good question, Mr. Mosley. When you put it like that, it definitely puts things in perspective."

"Cedric, when you say that you have plenty of time and that's why you're not working towards your dream of being a firefighter, it sounds like you're using that as an excuse to avoid taking action. If being a firefighter is truly what you want, now is the time to act, because we don't know how much time we have on this earth." "I know, man. And I want to start taking action, but I don't even know where to begin." I have a friend who is a firefighter and I will ask him what initial steps you can take to become a firefighter."

I talked to my friend and gave Cedric the information he needed to start chasing his dream of becoming a firefighter. Now, he is getting ready to go to community college to pursue his dream.

If, like Cedric, you want to put yourself on a path to achieve your dream, you have to rid yourself of Underestimated Time Syndrome. You live once, so overcome Underestimated Time Syndrome by taking action towards your dream because You Are WORTHY TO BE GREAT!!!!
