Transforming Fear into Motivation: A Path to Your Dreams

Fear can really hold us back from going after what we want in life. It likes to whisper doubts, blow our insecurities out of proportion, and can make us freeze up.

But here’s a cool thing: fear can also be turned into motivation. In this writing, we’ll look at some simple steps to turn fear into motivation so it can be used as fuel for your dreams.

Change Fear into Motivation

First things first, let’s see fear for what it really is: a completely normal feeling that everyone experiences. The first step is to identify what you’re actually afraid of.

For many people, it’s the fear of failure or what others think of them that really affects them. Once you pinpoint the root of your fear, you can begin making changes.

Understand Your Fear

It’s very important to understand your fear. Too many of us don’t stop to think about the actions our fear is producing in our lives.

For many years, I feared public speaking despite my dream of becoming a motivational speaker. My fear kept telling me I was going to fail, and by evaluating my fear, I started to understand it.

What I discovered is that the reason I was afraid was that I feared the judgment and rejection of others. This was so daunting to me that it kept me from pursuing my dream for years.

This understanding of my fear gave me the foundation for the steps I would need to take in order to overcome it.

That step was for me to join a speech club with other individuals who were overcoming their public speaking fears.

That decision allowed me to face my fear of speaking in front of others, which resulted in turning my fear into motivation and has led to the realization of my dream.

When you begin to unpack your fear, you lay a solid foundation to build on. Ask yourself: What’s really scaring me? Is it failure? Being laughed at?

Once you identify these fears, it becomes easier to break their hold on you and turn them into motivation.

Worst Case Scenario Game

Fear has a way of blowing things out of proportion, showing us the worst possible outcomes. To deal with that, try challenging those crazy scenarios. What’s the very worst that could happen?

For me, when it came to public speaking, I thought the worst case was forgetting my speech and being laughed at. But then I had to think: if that happened, would I actually die? Would I never be able to try again? Nope, definitely not.

By challenging those worst-case thoughts, you’ll often realize that failing isn’t as scary as it seems.

Keep in mind that even if you fail, you can always pick yourself up and give it another shot, and that’s a powerful realization that can help you turn your fear into motivation.

Act Despite Your Fear

After you’ve figured out your fears and pushed back against those worst-case thoughts, the next move is to take action despite your fear. This is where things happen.

You can talk about your fear and question it all you want, but if you never step outside your comfort zone, nothing will change.

I remember my first time speaking in front of a crowd. It was nerve-wrecking. My heart was racing, and I turned my fear into motivation by reminding myself that I’ve already overcome my fear of public speaking.

That allowed me to stand in front of that audience and speak with confidence, despite my fear.

The disasters I imagined never happened and that is how it will be with most of your fears. I know that taking action despite your fear is easier said than done so I want to give you three things you can use to help you act when fear is telling you not to.

1) Develop a positive statement/affirmation to help shift fear into motivation in your mind. Example, “I’m WORTHY TO BE GREAT”

2) Schedule a date to pursue your dream, despite your fear.

3) On your chosen day, commit to acting despite fear, and tell a trusted person so that individual can encourage you to follow-through.

Conclusion

If you want to turn fear into motivation, keep these three things in mind: understand your fear, question your worst-case scenarios, and take action despite your fear.

If you apply these in your life when dealing with fear, you will transform it into motivation.

So, it’s time to stop letting fear hold you back and turn it into the fuel to realize your dream because You Are WORTHY TO BE GREAT!
