When we take on a new endeavor, we will have the tendency to limit ourselves out of fear we may not be good enough. However, embracing our fears can help us achieve more than we ever imagined. That is why it's very important to test yourself instead of limiting yourself when you take on a new challenge in your life.
After 3 years of thinking about posting motivational videos online. I finally found the courage to shoot and post my first one and it got great feedback. This motivated me to start posting more but I realized that coming up with video ideas was a challenge. Negative thoughts started bombarding my mind "Gene, you are not very creative so if you post 3 videos you would be lucky. Gene, do you really think people will keep watching your videos, who do you think you are?" As I dwell on these thoughts, I started to doubt my ability to make consistent videos.
After not posting for several weeks, I decided to stop limiting myself and I created a plan to post 100 videos. I remembered that I had written over 1,500 stories in my journals so I started going through my journals to find stories that I could connect valuable lessons to for my online audience. I committed to doing only 2 videos a week, and as I progressed, I started doing a short video a day. To combat my negative thoughts, I wrote them on a piece of paper, crossed a red line through them and wrote a positive statement in red beside them. For example ""Gene, you are not very creative so if you post 3 videos you would be lucky" was crossed out and replaced with "I'm an inGENEious video creator."
The combination of my plan as well as my new positive thoughts have resulted in me creating over 1,000 videos. This happened because I decided to test myself, instead of limiting myself.
Whatever endeavor you are pursuing that is causing you to limit yourself. I want to challenge you to stop limiting yourself by testing yourself by:
1. Come up with a plan that will challenge you in your endeavor. Make sure both are simple and realistic and that you can start implementing the next day.
2. Writing down the negative thoughts that are feeding your self-limitations, cross those thoughts out with a red pen, then writing a positive statement(s) in red to erase those thoughts.
Don't be afraid to test yourself. You are the only one who can keep you from reaching your potential. So go out and test yourself, instead of limiting yourself because You Are WORTHY TO BE GREAT!!
