Is Your Haste Causing You Waste?

HASTE IS WASTE! These wise words from a wealthy mentor of mine have saved me both time and money. Thank goodness I heard these words before I started the journey towards my dream because if not, I would have made the mistake that many people make when they want something. It's the mistake that my friend Reid made that illustrates the importance of avoiding haste, so you don't have to endure the waste.
HASTING REID
Reid, who was in his late 20s, highly educated, and earning $100,000 on his job, was unhappy with his life. We were sitting in a restaurant, eating and discussing the next steps we wanted to take in our lives.
Reid said to me, "Gene, I hate this job man. It pays well, but it also takes up most of my time. I want to start my own business soon so that I can have the freedom to do what I want." I responded, "I feel where you're coming from, and I've got a two-year plan for when I'll leave my current job. I'll create a Corporation, and I'll substitute teach while I'm building the business. I talked to a wealthy mentor of mine, and he told me that Haste Is Waste and that I should have a realistic plan in place before pursuing what I want. It's something I encourage you to do as well."
THE BEST PLAN IS NO PLAN
Reid looked at me with a dismissive look on his face and said, "Two years is a long time, dude, I'm going to jump out on faith and figure everything out as I go. To me the best plan is no plan because that forces you to be creative."
Although Reid's logic about not having a plan sounded crazy, he was not joking. Three weeks later we met up again, and he said "I did it Gene." I asked, confused, "You did what?" "I quit my job, and I'm trying to figure out how to start my own business." "Oh wow, I hope it all works out for you." "It will and I'm so excited."
WHAT A WASTE
Unfortunately, that excitement didn't last long because 4 months later Reid called me and said "Bro, I have no idea what I'm doing in business and I have almost spent all my savings. I'm going to try to get my old job back, so I can save up money and figure something else out."
Reid went back to his former employer to try and get his $100,000-year job back, and they refused to rehire him. He had wasted time, money, and a $100,000 opportunity because of his haste.
Like Reid, are you about to let your haste cause you waste? You're impatient, so you avoid making a plan for your dream, and you're thinking about going after it with the "no plan is the best plan" mentality.
If that's the case, I encourage you to take the time to make a plan to pursue your dream, so your haste doesn't cause you waste because You Are WORTHY TO BE GREAT!
