🐰 Down The Rabbit Hole 🕳️

“This is the devil's bargain of the technological society, and we have been falling for it for forever: embrace the new, lose the old, and find yourself more deeply entwined in a technological web from which you cannot extricate yourself, even if you want to.”

~ Paul Kingsnorth, Against The Machine

Greetings, dear newsletter subscriber,

I rarely rush out to buy a book on release day — but Paul Kingsnorth’s Against the Machine: On The Unmaking of Humanity was an exception. For years, Kingsnorth has been one of the most compelling voices diagnosing the spiritual heart of our technological crisis, and I knew that I needed to read it as soon as possible...I was correct.

His new book is, arguably, the most important book ever published on the subject (at least partially because he has had the good fortune of standing on the shoulders of the giants who came before him), which is why I have decided to put our consideration of attention and values on hold, so as to focus on this new and important work.

Please join us! We will be reading through and discussing Kingsnorth's book publicly, live-streaming (most) Thursday evenings at 7:30pm (EST) on the Gadfly Academy YouTube channel. You can find the full schedule on this week's Substack post (link below).

I hope you'll purchase Paul's book and join us for the discussion!
