I've seen this before...
Kagabi lang may nagchat sa 'kin and told me hindi pa daw bayad ng balance yung client nya.
Then I asked her, "Do you have a contract?"
She replied, "Ate, wala."
Knowing that this freelancer has been doing this for quite a while akala ko naman all set na sya.
She felt robbed kasi sabi nya she did her best for this branding project.
Sobra ang effort nya dito pero hindi same level of commitment ang pinakita ni client.
The client paid a premium for this service too. So, hindi nya maintindihan why this client have ghosted her.
Alam naman daw nya at may hints na sya ng red flag to which she also enumerated:
- Palaging late sa meetings hindi gaano dedicated or laging may emergency
- Never syang inapproach about sa project
Nakailang follow-up na sya regarding sa balance ni client pero hindi na talaga nagrereply.
I've experienced it too. The $400 balance was not paid and the client completely ghosted me.
And maybe ikaw din naranasan mo na.
What can you do to prevent this?
- Be careful interacting with prospects online
- Prepare a written contract that they will agree with
- If you're a designer, always have a watermark prior to sending documents
Above all and this is the most important one - pre-qualify.
It's not possible to prequalify while on a call with a potential client. The pre-qualification process can be done through your content, contact form or booking tool, and even your branding (which is often reflected in your online presence).
This is where you can also be their go-to service provider, and build genuine relationships with them while not sacrificing your non-negotiables.

I never lowered my rates just to close the deal, I attracted better clients who are fit and aligned with me and I was able to build relationships with them that resulted in partnerships and collaborations.
