When blood wolves attack and other fun

I did a little traveling this weekend. One of my granddaughters rated some of my music as we drove back from a family gathering. I'll get to that in the music section below.

--Can you tell I'm excited about the release of this on sequel to Accidental Pirates? I know it will make some boys very happy.

OK. Enough promotion. You don't receive this newsletter just to read my ravings about my books--although I do hope that is one of the reasons. I mentioned that a granddaughter rated some of my music. We were listening to a playlist called "Selections" and she rated the songs as they came. I recall Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love," a couple Statler Brothers' hits, "Comanche" by Johnny Horton, "All My Life" by ELO, "Begin the Beguine," performed by Artie Shaw and his band, "Bei Mir Bist du Schoen" by the Andrews Sisters, "Crystal Ball" by Styx, and "Doctor My Eyes" by Jackson Browne. She started the scoring low but the scores gradually crept higher and she gave this last song her highest score of 8.5. We didn't even get through half of the playlist, but I suspect she would not have given any of the songs a higher score. She's a tough critic.

In reading, among my conquests was Rick Cutler's Colt Ostergaard: Man with a Gun. I enjoyed it. Check here to see what I had to say about it.

My wife and I just finished watching the Houdini & Doyle series. It's about the adventures of the magician and the creator of Sherlock Holmes as they encounter and solve mysteries steeped in supernatural phenomena. We liked it and were disappointed that it was only one season. Not every episode was great, but overall we found it very entertaining and thought provoking. The final episode touches on an assassination attempt on President McKinley. In historical fact, McKinley was shot twice at close range by an assassin on September 6, 1901, and died several days later of infection. Teddy Roosevelt, vice-president, succeeded him. What amazes me is that the assassin was convicted and executed in the electric chair at the end of October 1901. Less than two months after the crime, the culprit had been tried and executed. Justice moved at a swift pace at the turn of the century.

By the way, I'm on chapter 21 in writing Accidental Chessmen - book 3 in the Accidental Adventures Series.
