What's the best book I read in 2016?

I know I know ,

2016 was a looong time ago (even though I still feel like it's 2011!).

But books? Books are timeless -- they're not valued by how old (or how young) they are. And since I started reading for pleasure in 2016, I though I'd share my thoughts on best books I've read every year since then.

So how many books have I read in 2016? Well I started reading in November, so only 2 (and started the third).

The best one?

Out of only 2, it's an easy choice. One of the all-time favorites:

Rich Dad Poor Dad

This book had a tremendous impact on me and it shifted my entire mindset. Not just on money, but on life in general.

Prior to reading it, I thought there is only 1 path in life. You know the drill:

  • Childhood
  • School
  • College
  • Career
  • Marriage
  • Kids
  • Mid-life crisis
  • Retirement
  • Death

But while reading this masterwork by Robert Kiyosaki (who turned out to be an arrogant asshole), I realized: THAT'S NOT THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE!

And that's what I say to friends while recommending it. This book is great for your mindset but doesn't really offer sound investing advice. At least for most people.

Anyway, here's my most valuable lesson from Rich Dad Poor Dad:

The rich don't work for money, money works for them. It's much easier to become wealthy by investing in assets than by renting out your time (no matter how high your salary is).

My recommendation: 10/10 for everyone

Even if you're a slow reader, you can easily read through it in a week and it will be more than worth it.

And don't be intimidated by "the rich" in the quote. Because 'rich' is a mindset, not an amount of money.

If you earn more than you spend and invest the difference, you have a rich mindset. And that's the important thing because you'll eventually become wealthy.

On the other hand, if you start with millions and spend them like a moron, you'll end up broke soon enough. Just take a look at lottery winners and retired sports stars.

See you around,

Filip
