[Subscriber question:] How can I get rich?

What if you had the exact recipe on how to get rich?
As far as I know, there is no such thing. There is no single exact recipe but there are a million and one way to do it.
Some people think you need to get lucky in order to get rich.
Others think you need to inherit the money.
And many people think you need to work your way up the corporate ladder.
But as you may have anticipated, none of these is true.
I mean, yes, some people do get lucky by winning the lottery (and then go broke within a couple years). Many others seem 'lucky' from the outside, but when you look closer -- they've putting in the work for years.
And yes, there are people who inherit millions even though they've done nothing to deserve it. But that's life -- they inherited the money, you didn't -- move on and stop whining.
As with getting lucky & inheritance, it is also possible to get rich by climbing up the corporate ladder, landing into a C-level position and making a lot of money so you can retire comfortably.
But working your entire life is the WORST way to get rich -- except lying, cheating, stealing and murdering people for money.
Disagree? Please tell me why! Because I really don't understand the appeal of working for 50 years and then 'enjoying' the last 10 or 20 years of your life.
If all you've known for FIFTY YEARS was hard work and saving up for retirement, there is a small chance you'll know how to enjoy it when the time comes.
But I digress...
We were talking about how to get wealthy, and bad ways to do it.
"If you're so fucking smart Filip, how are YOU hoping to get rich?"
I'll let you in on a little secret, -- I'm not hoping, I am planning.
And here's exactly how I am doing it:
- reading books and learning stuff in general
- lowering my expenses, at least in the beginning
- learning a specific skill and getting really good at it
- which leads me to making enough money for a living
- in spare time, working on side hustles and learning more
- saving money for emergencies & large planned expenses
- investing a shit-ton of income into safer assets like index funds
- putting some of the investing money into high-risk assets like crypto.
That's my grand plan! And honestly, there is no shred of doubt in my mind -- I know I will get wealthy. The only question is: When?
(Disclaimer: This not financial advice, it's just a simplified description of what I am doing.)
But, in the end, I'm not rich yet -- so what the hell do I know, right ?
However, there is someone who is wealthy and has a beautiful Twitter thread on how to get rich without getting lucky.
It's specific enough so pretty much everyone can understand it, yet abstract enough so it can be applied to any industry and any skill, anywhere.
I'm talking about Naval Ravikant.
Who is Naval? In 2 words: Entrepreneur & investor, but he's so much than that. More details on him later.
First, take 3 minutes to read his Twitter thread. If clicking on the image doesn't work, try clicking here. (If the image isn't showing up at all, don't worry -- it's just a screenshot of the first tweet in the thread.)
Mind = Blown!
That's how I felt reading this for the first time. Simple and elegant, yet packed with value.
But that's just one of Naval's threads. Trust me, listening to him is even better. Whether on his own podcast or as a guest on other podcasts. It's like an ancient philosopher travelled in time to teach timeless wisdom to modern people.
In fact, his first appearance on the Tim Ferriss Show was nominated for Podcast of the Year in 2015!
Naval is the person I love listening to the most -- with the exception of my girlfriend, of course!
See you around,
-Filip
