Hello Agroundians!
I always wonder how often I should include Aground Zero updates in this newsletter, since this newsletter is for the original Aground. However, a lot of exciting work and progress has been made on Aground Zero, and I’d like to share some of that here!
A lot of content was added, including:
- Space Travel: 🎥 Aground Zero - Building a Space Station

- The Moon: 🎥 Aground Zero - To The Shattered Moon!

- Spaceships: 🎥 Aground Zero - Beetle Explorer

- Interstellar travel to a familiar world from the original Aground!
I also started a magic path, where you can:
- Raise Dragons: 🎥 Aground Zero - Raising Dragons

- Craft Spellbooks: 🎥 Aground Zero - Fooling around with Spellbooks

- More coming soon!
Online Multiplayer was added!
🎥 Aground Zero - Third Multiplayer Test (Dev Stream)
Aground VS Aground Zero
I know many of you are wondering how similar Aground and Aground Zero are - so I decided to make a quick comparison:
- Both games strongly feature mining and crafting.
- Both games have a focus on progression, quests and story.
- Aground Zero is much more focused on base building - creating and automating factories, and assigning survivors as workers.
- Aground is much more focused on combat and exploration.
- Both games let you go to space, learn magic and ride dragons!
- Aground is a 2D pixel game, and Aground Zero is 3D.
- Because of the art styles, Aground has been called a Terraria clone, and Aground Zero a Minecraft clone - but neither of those comparisons is accurate.
- Both games have a long, free demo you can play to get a feel of the game, and allow you to transfer your saves to the full version if you decide to buy the game. The best way to get to know a game is to try it, so I believe strongly in adding demos of my games!
Another question I often get is if Aground Zero is a prequel or a sequel to Aground. The answer might surprise you: it is both! Aground Zero starts before the events of the original Aground, but it continues after a timeskip event to after the Hybrid Path in Aground (and what happens with the peace treaty). There are a lot of easter eggs and references to the original Aground in the story. If you were invested in Aground’s storyline, I think Aground Zero adds a lot to the universe and lore.

If you’re interested in the development of Aground Zero and want to hear more frequent updates, you should join our newly created Aground Zero newsletter which you can subscribe to here:
We’re also active on our Discord, and I have also been sharing quite a few in-development videos on our Youtube channel.
That’s all for this newsletter. As you can tell, the majority of my time has been working on Aground Zero, and I think it’s really starting to come together. I’m not ready to announce an official release date, but I’m thinking some time early 2025.
Until next time,
David
