Small-town charm and rediscovered dreams are always in season in Dogwood Creek, Tennessee

Lauren Juniper and Nathan Brickner were once inseparable. Summers by the creek, winters sledding, and dandelion wishes made from childhood dreams. He wanted to chase the world. She chose the gentle allure of the town that had always known her.

Eight years ago, Nathan left Dogwood Creek chasing after adventure. Lauren stayed behind, building a life rooted in her vintage flower shop. Suddenly, he’s back—no longer the boy who once brought her dandelions to wish on, but a successful bridge engineer leading the town’s project to replace the old stone bridge that has always been the heart of their community.

To the town, it’s progress.

To Lauren, it’s personal. Her grandparents got engaged on that bridge!

As she fights to keep the charm the bridge has always had, she finds herself face-to-face with the man who broke her heart—and still knows exactly how to make it skip a beat. Nathan sees safety and innovation. Lauren sees memory and meaning. But somewhere in the clash of old and new, the spark between them flickers to life once more.

Like dandelion wishes caught on the wind, can they gather the scattered seeds of love and rebuild the trust they lost, or are some hearts too withered to open again?

The last thing I expected to do when I returned home after years away was fall for my brother’s best friend.

Nova:

I left my small town four years ago and didn’t look back. When I return with my tail between my legs after breaking up with my controlling yet commitment-fearing boyfriend, I’m surprised by the warmth I find at The Storybook Inn. The owner, Aunt Birdie, embraces me with open arms and gives me a place to stay when my dad turns me away. Unfortunately for me, Dad is more stubborn than ever. He still thinks my dream of becoming a great artist is too far-fetched to be possible and maybe it is. But if I’ve learned anything in this last year, it’s that God’s plans won’t be thwarted. Something that proves true when God uses an accident at Storybook Inn to facilitate Aunt Birdie’s dream.

Holt:

The Navy SEALs prepared me for a lot of things, but moving back to my small town with a well-meaning meddling aunt is not one of them. Aunt Birdie wastes no time playing matchmaker when she sends me to a cabin to fix an alleged leaky faucet without telling me it’s inhabited by my best friend’s gorgeous prodigal sister. Nova and I are both coming out of painful break-ups, a whirlwind romance is the last thing either of us wants. But falling for her is inevitable when she jumps in to renovate my family’s legacy, The Storybook Inn, without hesitation. With every bike ride we go on, every room we renovate together, every accidental touch, I can’t help but dive headfirst into the whirlwind anyway.

Until one “fake kiss” threatens to destroy us both.

A man who lost everything.

A woman squatting on a property that's not hers.

An aunt who suggests a marriage of convenience.

When Smith Long strides into his new hometown, he doesn't expect to get bowled over by a woman chasing her cow whom she claims has fallen in love with a pig. Doesn't every small town have that one crazy person?

He's not laughing later, though, when his aunt informs him that in order for him to receive the old, rundown property she'd promised him, he has to marry the crazy woman he'd hoped to never see again.

Abrielle Adams is squatting on a ranch outside of Sweet Water, North Dakota and hoping that she'll get back on her feet before the heir shows up. Wishful thinking since she finds out that the man who'd kept her from catching her cow is the very person she was trying to avoid.

But now Abrielle has been offered the one thing she could really use - half ownership of the ranch she's been "borrowing" - and all she has to do is marry a (grumpy, sour, and okay, handsome) stranger.

To both Abrielle and Smith, marriage is more than convenience and a vow is a lifetime commitment. Will they see how much they have in common and decide they need each other?

Just seeing Trusting the Hero makes me want to reread the whole Freedom Ridge series. I miss those characters and their stories. It was fun to reconnect with Jan, Aidan, Joanna and the town of Freedom in Mandi’s recent release, Love on the Run.
