Returning to Work, A Flooded House, and Asbestos

Hi Collective,
Emmett is 15 months old now, and this past week marked my first real return to routine outside the house in a long time. I honestly didn’t know how it was going to go.
Breastfeeding. New students and colleagues. Courses I’ve taught before, but in a completely new season of life. And—just to keep things interesting—our pipes burst last week and we had to move out on the fly. Did I mention asbestos? Insurance calls, logistics, unknowns stacked on unknowns.
I felt like I was swimming in it.
Truthfully, leading up to the week, there were feelings.
And then… I went to work.
Somehow, against all expectations, I was okay. More than okay. The students in front of me are incredible—kind, curious, genuinely engaged (which, if you’ve ever taught core French, you know is not always the case). My colleagues re-welcomed me with open arms. My projector worked. I had braced myself for the week to be a write-off, but it wasn’t.
That realization caught me off guard. Sitting with it now, I see two things clearly.
First: I have tools.
Sound. Breath. Energy work. Time in nature. Community. Food. Doctor's support. I have what I need to support nervous system regulation and bring me back into my body when things feel chaotic.
Second: boundaries.
We talk about them often, but living them is another story. Working part-time has allowed me to leave the building at lunch. Choosing not to linger means I'm not absorbing others’ emotional weight to the same extent. This has been quietly transformative.
My protected energy gets reinvested where it matters most: to my family, my baby, this collective, and my own growth.
This is the space I hold in sound baths.
A place to become aware of and protect your energy. A place to regulate, soften, and tune back into yourself, especially when life feels full, uncertain, or stretched thin.
If you feel called, I’m offering a group sound bath next Tuesday at 7pm.
I know getting into the car on a cold, dark night sucks - but nervous system regulation is the best. Join us!
With love,
Lisa
Also: I'm looking for a few "models" to help with filming a video for my website. If you are interested in joining on Saturday the 14th from 10:30-11:30, let me know! I would pay you back in free sound baths!
