Sound as Your Tool for Tolerance

Hello Collective!
In my last email, I shared about starting work again, our house flooding, navigating insurance, the renovation — all of it.
It’s been a season.
And if I’m honest, past me would have loved the drama of it all.
I would have told the story in a way that ignited the feelings underneath my suffering — amplifying the overwhelm, feeding the chaos, unconsciously inviting it to grow.
But something is shifting.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the truth that suffering is not optional — it’s part of being human. Not because it’s good. Not because we want it. But because hardship is often what pushes us to grow, to know ourselves more deeply, to refine how we want to live.
The practice isn’t avoiding suffering.
The practice is how we manage it.
This is where the window of tolerance becomes so important.
Your window of tolerance is the range in which your nervous system feels safe and regulated. When you’re inside your window, you can think clearly, feel your emotions without being overwhelmed, and respond with intention. Stressors may be present. Even BIG ones, but they are manageable.
When you move outside your window, you shift into survival states.
You may go into hyperarousal: feeling anxious, reactive, irritable, or overwhelmed. Maybe you lean toward hypoarousal: feeling shut down, numb, disconnected, exhausted.
As I grow my window of tolerance, my body doesn't amplify life's challenges. The flood still happened. The renovation still needs managing. Insurance won't have our backs at a reasonable cost. I'm still up at night with the baby. But I'm also okay. Surprisingly great, really. Here is what I've learned:
Sound bathing is one of the most supportive tools I know for strengthening and expanding my window of tolerance.
The vibrations and resonance help downregulate cortisol and calm the stress response. It signals safety to the body. Over time, as your nervous system repeatedly experiences this regulated state, your window widens.
Staying in your zone becomes more accessible.
Returning to safety becomes faster. Handling life becomes steadier.
The challenges don’t disappear. But your resilience grows.
This is the space I hold in our sessions: If you’re in a season of growth, this is your invitation to strengthen your ability to meet it productively.
