Even as someone who keeps up with global events, I am stunned that I wasn’t fully aware of the severity of what has been happening in Sweden over the past couple of years…
Buckle up and let’s get into it.
Sweden was once held up as the “great model” of open, humanitarian, progressive immigration policy.
Then, after years of integration problems, social strain, and rising public concern from native Swedes, the government moved in the opposite direction and introduced (and then increased) financial incentives for some immigrants to voluntarily return to their countries of origin.
They spent years “welcoming” just about anyone, only to realize that society was better off without them and decided to offer them money to leave.
What was the breaking point?
…I suspect it was the well over 400 targeted, gangland-style bombings since the beginning of 2023 (yes, you read that right) in Sweden that turned even the most “compassionate bleeding heart liberals” against the idea of importing a massive number of people from backgrounds and cultures that have little to nothing in common with Swedish people, Swedish culture or Swedish history…
Mass immigration without strict integration expectations isn’t working, no matter how hard they try to convince you it is.
It’s not working in London. It’s not working in Spain. It’s not working in Ireland.
…and so long as the leftists controlling these governments continue to bring in "refugees" en masse without strict background checks and real-world assimilation strategies, it won’t work.
Violent crime is up across the board (among a slew of other problematic indicators), and people who aren’t woke and braindead are done with it.
What I don’t understand is this: why aren’t these governments learning anything from one another?
Why aren’t they at the very least ensuring proper integration, or better yet, firming entry barriers to ensure the people they’re bringing in won’t be a net-negative to society?
Why do Western governments continue to neglect the safety and quality of life of their own citizens and prioritize those who didn’t earn their spot within society?
And the real problem is that Sweden isn't unique.
The same patterns are playing out across much of the Western world.
Again, mass immigration is not working... and yet, even countries like my once-dear Canada continue to leave the floodgates wide open for those to come in without any expectation of integration or assimilation.
Statistics Canada reported that 97.6% of Canada’s population growth in 2023 was due to international migration, while only 2.4% was due to natural increase.
…you’re being replaced, and the Canada (or the Sweden, the Spain, the U.K, the Netherlands or Ireland) you once knew is gone, and it’s not coming back…
Are you OK with your children living in a country that looks and operates nothing like it once did, or are you content to “stick it out” because “it’s home”, and you’re so “fortunate to have grown up there”?
Look, I understand the emotional connection to home is a strong one… especially when you have a pleasant version of it to remember.
In fact, it’s often the very thing holding most people back from stepping into something better, even if they know it is the right thing to do…
…and even when they know it’s well within their reach.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
