What Happened After Someone Lost Their Wallet at My Birthday Party…
Mar 24, 2025 11:06 am
Last week, we wrapped up our inaugural Wealth, Freedom and Passports Conference, followed by our company retreat here in Panama — and I’ve got to share two quick stories with you. They’ve been on my mind ever since.
After my birthday party, which wrapped up the two-day conference, one of the attendees discovered they had lost their wallet the next day.
Just imagine the panic — you’re in a foreign country, and everything’s gone — credit cards, ID, cash.
But instead of turning into a nightmare, something surprising happened.
A local Panamanian found the wallet… and tracked the person down to return
it.
Everything was still there.
No reward was asked for.
Just an honest act from a good person who didn’t have to go the extra mile — but did anyway.
Then, just a few days later, it happened again.
Someone at the retreat left her handbag — passport and all — in the bathroom at the resort.
When she realized it and went back to look, it was already gone.
Except this time, it wasn’t lost… someone had already turned it in to a staff member, and it was waiting for her at the front desk. Safe. Untouched.
Now look — I know the narrative.
I’ve heard all the fear-based warnings about “crime in Latin America.”
I’m not saying bad things don’t ever happen.
Of course they do. They happen everywhere.
But what I am saying is this:
There are still good people in the world. And there are a lot of them in Panama.
These stories are why I’m so confident building a life here — and why I help others do the same. It’s not just about the tax benefits (though those are excellent).
It’s about quality of life. Safety. Community. Stability.
And moments like these remind me why I chose Panama in the first place.
If you’ve been thinking about building your own Plan-B — or just want to know your best options — we are running our famous Fly'n Buy real estate tour to Panama again this May; there are only 10 spots available, so take a look now.
And remember — the world’s a better place than most people think.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
P.S. We announced this at the conference — our 2025 tours are live; join us on our Expat Exploration Tours to Colombia, Paraguay, and Brazil. These are boots-on-the-ground trips to explore real Plan-B options and connect with others serious about freedom. I hope to see you at one of them.
