Pickpockets in Europe!
Aug 24, 2023 11:46 am
Well, Istanbul has been a great trip so far but not without its challenges.
We have been out for full days viewing real estate and taking meetings while the nanny watches the kids.
At the end of our first full day of viewing real estate, we went to register for SIM cards so we could message the nanny and make sure the kids were alright.
Two minutes after walking out of the phone shop, someone unzipped my mother's backpack, pretended to bump into her, and lifted her phone and wallet...
She realized instantly but the guy was already gone.
Canadian driver's license, Panama driver's license, credit card, and debit card for the trip as well as her phone with 3 years' worth of photos and videos of our kids. Add to that several hundred dollars in cash.
Well, not a great way to kick off a month-long trip... and yes she knows (now) that it's not a great place to put a phone...
Anyways, from my understanding, this is happening in every major European city these days. So she is not alone. I guess we just get spoiled living in Panama where things like this are so rare.
If you guys are planning any trips to Europe then please be so super careful, if it can happen to us in mid-daylight, it can happen to anyone.
A few more days here, then flying to Georgia!
