An explosion near a major bridge in Panama… here’s what happened
Apr 08, 2026 8:50 pm
Hey everyone,
If you’re a client or a friend (almost always one of the same) of mine living in Panama… I’m sure what I’m about to tell you is not news to you.
On Monday afternoon, a fuel truck exploded at the base of the Bridge of the Americas.
It’s the bridge that runs alongside the Panama Canal.
Sadly, one fuel truck worker was killed in the explosion, and two firefighters were injured while extinguishing the flames.
Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time, but luckily, no one else was reportedly injured.
The bridge was shut down almost immediately, and engineers and specialized teams have been on site assessing the damage.
When steel is exposed to extreme heat, it can weaken… and that’s exactly what engineers are evaluating now.
The bridge will remain closed until its safety can be confirmed.
Now, here’s my take…
If repairs are required, they will be done properly and without time wasted.
This bridge is of significant importance, as it connects Panama City to the western half of the country, and its reopening is already being treated as a matter of national importance.
I am optimistic I will be sharing good news shortly.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but the reality is, accidents happen.
What matters is how a country responds when something critical is put under pressure.
In a place like Panama, what’s important gets attention.
And things get solved.
I choose to live here for a reason.
Because things work.
…and when they don’t…
They get fixed.
Where you choose to live matters now more than ever.
If you have been thinking about relocating overseas, whether to preserve freedom, improve quality of life, or for financial or economic reasons, I can help.
Start by carefully reading this important letter here, and if things make sense, the next steps will be obvious to you.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
PS. And yes, of course, we are still doing our awesome Fly'n Buy Tour to Panama in May, as this will not negatively affect our event. You can get more information about the tour here.
