The "far right" and ballot box bans
Apr 04, 2025 12:36 pm
It’s always funny when I go into the reviews on Apple or other platforms the Expat Money Show is available on.
The large majority of reviews are from genuine fans of the show, who enjoy the work we do and appreciate the topics we cover for the expat community at large.
But then there’s the other kind of review.
You know the kind I’m talking about.
Those 1-star reviews that come across more like childish rants than actual criticism.
It’s almost always the same type of person complaining about the exact same thing.
They don’t criticize my advice or my guests per se, or even the topics covered.
It’s always some feral leftist who doesn’t agree with my libertarian take on certain political matters, which often leads them to the conclusion that I am “far right.”
Sadly, much of the Woke left today can only label, chastise, and harass; they deeply resent people with even slightly opposing views.
The people calling me “far-right” who simultaneously claim to be defenders of democracy are the ones who really crack me up.
If you still even believe we live in functioning Western democracies where the people choose their leaders, it’s time for a wake-up call.
The elites aren’t playing by the rules anymore even for appearances sake.
They’re simply rewriting them.
France has now banned Marine Le Pen from running for public office for the next five years.
This time, they’ve dusted off an “embezzlement” accusation, conveniently timed to derail her chances of running for president again.
Sound familiar?
It should.
Because that’s exactly what happened to Donald Trump as he geared up to run for President in 2024.
They knew they couldn’t stop him at the ballot box, so they turned to lawfare.
Indictments. Gag orders. Endless court appearances.
You name it, they tried it.
Meanwhile, Germany has openly floated an outright ban on AfD—a political party that garnered 20.8% of the national vote in February’s election.
According to the Mises Institute, Germany’s intelligence services have already placed the AfD under surveillance, branding them a “potential extremist threat.”
Let me remind you: these are not fringe movements.
These are political parties that win millions of votes in fair elections.
But that no longer matters to the ruling class.
They preach “defending democracy” while undermining it.
They scream “tolerance” while silencing dissent.
They use the legal system not for justice—but to eliminate opposition.
This is the real authoritarianism.
And it’s not coming from the so-called “far-right.”
It’s coming from the halls of power, cloaked in the language of progress and human rights.
If they can silence a Trump as they tried to last year, a Le Pen, or the AfD, what do you think they’ll do to you when you start questioning the system?
For now, the worst that has come my way are some bad podcast reviews from a few sour apples (btw, if you do enjoy the show, you can help counter those with a nice 5-star review of your own on Apple podcasts or your preferred platform.)
The chances of political persecution are one of the many reasons to have a diversified Plan-B, so that you’re not beholden to any one government.
