One Big Mistake to Avoid When Moving Overseas
Apr 14, 2025 12:16 pm
There’s a lot to prepare for when moving abroad—residency, banking, real estate, taxes... to name a few.
But there is one mistake many make when planning a new life abroad...
They try to go it alone.
I recently came across a video from a British expat who moved to Greece back in 2010.
He had the paperwork, the plan, and even the in-laws nearby…
...but what he didn’t have was a community.
And that isolation nearly wrecked his entire experience.
“I didn’t know anybody. I had no connections, no friends,” he said. “I’ve worked from home for years, and while that may sound cool, it left me completely cut off.”
When preparing for a new life abroad, it’s easy to focus on the logistics of "big" things... the paperwork, the investments, etc.
But I've seen it time and time again... many overlook the aspect of the people.
That’s exactly why I built Expat Money® the way I did.
Yes, we help guide our Private Clients through the tactical stuff like banking, tax planning, and obtaining a second (or third) residency or citizenship, but just as important is the community aspect.
At Expat Money®, we’ve created an amazing and growing community of freedom-minded people just like you who are building better lives abroad and doing it together.
From our private Facebook group to our in-person conference to our small, more intimate trips to countries like Brazil, Paraguay, and Colombia, you're never just a name in a database here—you're part of something real.
Check out this video from our recent Wealth, Freedom and Passports Conference here in Panama last month to get a taste of what I'm talking about.
If you’re serious about making your Plan-B a reality, don’t make the mistake of isolating yourself by thinking you can arrive to live in a new country without a support system of like-minded people by your side.
Get plugged in with the community now, before you move your life offshore... not after.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
