As I told you the other day, I spent about 18 months hitchhiking and backpacking through the States and Latin America in 2003 and 2004.

One of the first countries I went to in this region was Belize.

I spent a week or so there doing my PADI Open Water diving license (which I would eventually go on to do my Advanced Open Water license in Honduras, my Rescue Diver license in Malaysia, and my Master Scuba Divers license in the Philippines.)

Because of my excellent experience diving in Belize, I spent nearly a decade doing dive holidays all over the world.

Anyways, Belize is a very interesting country for several reasons:

First, it is the only English-speaking country in the region.

Second, they attract over twice the entire country's population in tourism every year because of the world-class diving, big game fishing and affordable Caribbean island lifestyle; and it is set to grow even more in 2023.

And third, this tourism is concentrated in only a few key locations with a trend towards one particular place.
