Californians decide to just stay in Panama

Oct 18, 2021 3:01 pm

Yesterday I met up with a group of members from our Expat Money community.

Including the kids, there must have been around 15 of us.

Not only did we have an excellent time together, but it was also so natural to meet everyone, most of whom I had just exchanged emails with or had commented on posts in our private forum.

During lunch, I was listening to the story of one of my members and the ordeal she had getting down to Panama.

She wanted to apply for the FNV visa before the program ended on August 6th but she didn’t have US passports for her two young children.

She submitted the application with what should have been plenty of time but because of covid, everything was completely backed up.

As the deadline got closer and closer she was getting more worried that she would not be able to make the trip.

She started calling her Senator, her Congressperson, anyone to get her kid’s passports expedited. She could see from the online tracking that the passports had not even been issued yet though.

Eventually, she thought there was no hope so cancelled the entire trip.

Flights.

Airbnb.

Everything.

And because it was last minute she didn’t get any refunds. Nada — nothing.

Well, the very next day after cancelling the entire trip the passports arrived on her doorstep. And you know what? She rebooked everything, paid for everything, a second time.

Wow, what a fighter.

She and her husband ended up making it down to Panama just in time before the program closed, got their residency and have been in Panama since then.

Can you imagine what a whirlwind that must have been?

Three months later and they are still here in Panama and loving it. We talked through things at lunch today and they are considering just postponing their trip back to California and staying on in Panama for longer. They love it that much.

I was so proud when they told me this story, honestly what an amazing couple.

I share this all with you because you have to understand that being an expat is not easy, things do not always go as planned, and yes, you have to fight for the life you want.

If you push through all the challenges, the reward can be substantial.

It was so excellent to meet everyone from our community, I am constantly inspired by this group.

It’s what keeps me so fired up to continue putting out content about the expat world and trying to find interesting programs and opportunities that can help you.

Just like my friend Marco’s paid crypto newsletter that I am such a fan of.

Everyone who attended lunch yesterday was into crypto and the gains they have earned this year have allowed them to travel freely and not have to worry about money again.

If you have not subscribed yet then this is your chance, pull the trigger, as I said, the rewards can be substantial...
