One Size Doesn't Fit All: Lessons From Homeschooling Five Children Overseas
Mar 27, 2024 9:06 pm
Today’s guest is Joshua Sheats. Joshua is an expert financial planner who teaches normal people how to seamlessly connect the science of financial planning with the joy of goal achievement. He is the host of the Radical Personal Finance podcast and, as you’ll hear in this episode, is also passionate about education and worldschooling with his five children.
Since Joshua has discussed finance on over 1,000 episodes of his podcast, today, Joshua and I begin a three-part series in which we discuss everything but finance. In this conversation, we dive into Joshua’s approach to educating his five children while travelling the world.

TODAY'S CONVERSATION WITH JOSHUA SHEATS
- Learn about Joshua’s own educational upbringing, which included an eclectic mix of homeschooling, public school, a private Christian school and a traditional university.

- Listen to Joshua describe the “knowledge gap” between the United States and China and what it means for their respective approaches to education.
- Discover why Joshua has come to believe that education is always religious in nature
- Hear Joshua explain how raising five children taught him there is no such thing as “one size fits all” parenting advice or educational method.
- Listen in as Joshua describes how relationships are built on “the currency of time” and why time spent with children early on is so critical to character development.
- Discover how Joshua learned how to create a controlled, positive environment around technology, which has encouraged his children to use it for positive, educational purposes.
- By the end of the episode, you’ll understand why Joshua and I both want to “have it all” when it comes to raising our children and why you can legit have it all, too.

It was great having Joshua on the show after getting to know him and working with him over the last few years. Joshua is absolutely brilliant when it comes to personal finance. Still, I was so excited to dive into a subject you don’t hear him talk about as often and glean so many great insights from the homeschooling of his five children.
And the conversation didn’t stop there! Join us next week as Joshua and I continue our discussion and delve deeper into the subject of memory and foreign language learning.
See you on the podcast next Wednesday!

Mikkel
