IKEA Moves In: What It Says About Panama’s Future
Aug 22, 2025 12:06 pm
Last year, I told you all how Tim Hortons had officially arrived in Panama, bringing a symbol of Canadian culture to the local Soho Mall in Panama City and introducing a new economic frontier to Timbits and Double Doubles.
Well, now it seems that Panama is going to learn something new about DIY furniture builds and Swedish meatballs.
IKEA recently announced its plans to expand to Panama and Costa Rica.
Now, on the surface, this may not seem like a big deal, but I assure you…it is.
The level of market research and financial forecasting that a corporation like IKEA has to do before making a decision such as this isn’t a light one.
To put things in perspective, IKEA currently operates 480 stores across 63 markets.
It's safe to say, they know a thing or two about what makes a successful market.
With IKEA, you might only think of DIY furniture and a food court with a cult following, but savvy investors know that IKEA is coming for a reason:
Because the opportunities here in Panama are boundless and the future looks bright.
I’ve been telling you for years now that Panama and Latin America as a whole truly represent the future when it comes to international business and finance.
Now, the only question is: which businesses will lead the charge into this new frontier?
I hope that you, much like IKEA and Tim Hortons, see the opportunity that’s here too.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
