The U.S. Passport Just Fell Out of the Top 10

Nov 10, 2025 12:07 pm

The latest Henley Passport Index just confirmed what has seemed obvious to many for years: the U.S. passport has officially dropped out of the global top 10.

The U.S. isn’t some magical place where its global reputation isn’t tied to the on-the-ground reality; thus, this drop is just one of the many consequences of a country in decline.

Once the gold standard of global mobility, the U.S. passport now ranks 11th…

…just behind Malaysia.

That’s a long fall from being ranked 1st, as it once did (as recently as 2014)...

Since then, it’s been on a downward slide.

While other countries are opening up and creating programs that have boosted their passport ranking, Americans are losing visa-free access to countries like Brazil and Vietnam, just to name a couple.

The U.S. has stopped reciprocating, stopped innovating, and frankly, stopped leading, and the world is taking note.

Make no mistake, this strength ranking doesn’t just affect the “travel-associated elements” of a passport..

It directly correlates to the declining influence, shrinking access, and a global loss of trust that the U.S is facing.

Now, people like you and I don’t just see these signals and let them pass us by as unimportant…

We understand what all these compounding signals will eventually mean.

We understand the second, third, and fourth-order consequences.

…we understand what this will all mean if our lives are directly tied to that system.

And because of that, we look beyond borders, many of us, toward Latin America, where things are heading in the right direction, to say the least.

Panama, the country I call home, has seen its passport rise from ranking 36th in 2023 to 28th in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Paraguay passport has risen to 31st place, up from 37th in 2023.

This is a clear-as-day example of the “when old powers fall, new opportunities rise.

…and that’s where we are right now in Latin America.

If you were waiting “for one more thing”, let this be it, because when the U.S. passport stops opening doors, your second one will.

For now, just take a couple of minutes to carefully read this important letter and start considering your next steps toward true freedom and security.

Speak soon,

Mikkel
