Expat Money Marriages - Am I kidding?

Jul 17, 2024 8:26 pm

This was a new experience for me: yesterday, I was the official witness for a Private Client here in Panama who got married at the Notary Republic.

It was a cool experience because here I am, a Canadian guy, witnessing a marriage in Panama in the Spanish language for my Australian client and his Thai wife.

Over the last few years, I have helped around 13 or 14 clients get married, usually couples who have been together for a long time but never made the marriage “legal.”

You see, down here in Latin America, when you are going through immigration, they only recognize a “legal” marriage.

Sorry; I keep putting it in quotation marks because I despise needing the States' recognition of the union to count in their eyes, but that is a gripe for another day…

Anyways, as I was saying, I have helped over a dozen clients get married for immigration reasons, but this was my first time actually standing up as a witness for one of them.

The Notary was amazing; he was personable, charismatic, and very funny. Big shout out to Notary One in Panama City. I can highly recommend their services.

The funny thing is that my client must have said thank you a dozen times for standing up with him at the ceremony. From my side, I was the lucky one to be able to participate!

I was thinking about it all night: how fortunate I am to be involved in such an important event in my clients' lives. To be worthy of the trust this involves.

Also, as a side note, I am sure it’s one of the massive differences between working with me and one of my competitors; I can guarantee you that they would never do the things I do for my clients.

I always try to dive into experiences. And think about it, now I have a new experience, and because of this, I am a more valuable consultant for the rest of my clients. I can reference this experience to help so many more people.

The community we have built at Expat Money is so different than any I have been a part of, and it just keeps growing and getting stronger and stronger.

In the same vein of community, one of the big things we have coming up is the presentation on Veritas Panama this coming Saturday. It’s a viable option for people looking to have all the luxury of a premier gated community while at the same time being 100% off-grid. A rare combination, I would say!

Join me online at 9am, July 20th, to learn more about the community and how you can participate — you can register here:
