Most people die at 25 and aren't buried until they're 75

I got this email from Connor at Spanish149.com the other day, and with permission from his team, I wanted to pass it on to you as I think he does an excellent job of explaining why you need to seriously take a look at this:

"Most people die at 25 and aren't buried until they are 75." - Ben Franklin

A few years ago, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't be one of those people.

I know people that didn't make the same promise. People from high school, college, or friends of friends. Every year they say how they are going to change.

How they are going to lose weight. How they are going to quit their job and travel the world. How they are going to learn a new language.

And then, a year later, they are in the same place. They talk about all the things they are going to do, but never actually do them.

Do you want that to be you?

Look, this is the situation…

I'm going to be honest with you.

Today, I'm going to ask you to Spanish149.com again.

But I'm not going to treat you like a child.

I'm not going to put some false deadline on you. No special offer, no bonuses about to expire, no discounts or sales. I'm not going to try to trick you into doing anything, because that isn't going to help you.

No, I'm going to treat you like the adult you are.

Adults decide what they want and then take action to get it.

Adults don't sit around and wait for the perfect time to start because they know that it doesn't exist.

When will there ever be a perfect time to do anything, let alone learn Spanish?

You're busy now, and you're going to be busy later.

If you're waiting for the perfect time to stop dabbling and really commit to learning Spanish, you're going to be waiting for a loooong time.

No, if you're going to learn Spanish, you're going to have to clear some time and make it a priority in your life, like an adult.

I want you to imagine life a year from now

You have your reasons why you want to learn Spanish. Maybe it's for travel or because you're moving to a Spanish-speaking country. Maybe it's professional. Maybe it's for family or for love. Maybe it's something completely else.

You have a vision in your head of what life will look like with Spanish. Imagine what life will be like with Spanish a year from now. I don't know what that looks like, as your motivations are yours. But imagine it as vividly as you can.

What if none of that happens?

What if you don't take the leap, make Spanish a priority, and sit here in a year, exactly where you are now?

What will you be missing?

Here are a few of the things I would have missed just in the last six months had I not spoken Spanish…

  • I wouldn't have my amazing, beautiful girlfriend who doesn't speak English
  • I wouldn't enjoy living in Medellin, which is my favorite city in the world with Spanish, but would absolutely suck without Spanish (ps, we now have a Spanish school here in Medellin, which follows the same principles for online classes).
  • I wouldn't have this business, which gets me up every morning at 6am, excited to work, and instead, I'd still be trading time for money
  • I wouldn't have been able to laugh my ass off with the Ecuadorian I met in Milan, the Colombian couple I met in Santorini, or the Mexican I met in Switzerland.
  • I wouldn't have been able to travel through Barcelona without a word of English

What happens if you don't take the leap?

Maybe you lose a promotion or job to someone who speaks Spanish, even when you're more qualified than they are.

Maybe you don't buy that plane ticket, afraid you won't be able to communicate when you arrive.

Maybe you pass yet another year without being able to speak to you or your partner's Latin family.

Maybe you end up giving up on your dream of speaking Spanish completely and end up like the people in Ben Franklin's quote.

Maybe you move to Latin America and end up hating it because you can't communicate with anyone, making you feel alone.

Maybe you miss out on the love of your life.

Regret is a nasty beast.

I'm not saying that Spanish149.com is the only way to learn Spanish.

But you have to commit to something.

I can't make the decision for you. You've got to take the leap yourself:

Spanish149.com
