The UK’s Crypto Crackdown Is Coming

May 26, 2025 12:21 pm

If you use cryptocurrency and are in the United Kingdom, brace yourself:

Beginning January 1, 2026, new regulations in the UK will require crypto firms to track and report detailed information about every transaction on their platforms.

We’re talking about full name, home address, tax ID, wallet address, and exact transaction details, all handed over to the government.

Miss a detail or use a non-compliant platform? That’s a £300 fine per transaction (or higher).

This isn’t just regulation—it’s a full-on assault on your privacy.

Cryptocurrency was designed to help people transact without the prying eyes of the government getting in the way.

Now, the powers-that-be in the UK are doing their best to ensure that it won’t be the case.

Already, banks like HSBC, Chase and others have been blocking crypto trades and limiting crypto trades in the UK, so the writing has been on the wall.

Reddit is buzzing with stories of traders losing bank accounts just for buying Bitcoin.

And these latest rules and regulations will only make things worse.

A few years ago, on the Expat Money Show, my guest and I discussed how the UK’s descent into totalitarianism makes ‘1984’ look more like an instruction manual than a piece of fiction.

From having some of the worst lockdowns on the planet, to rampant crime and anti-self-defence laws that have extended as far as banning ninja swords, the UK is just not a great place to be if you care about freedom and wealth.

As if they couldn’t already be sending a clearer message, the UK has also abolished its popular “Non-Dom” tax regime, replacing it with a residence-based system with far fewer benefits.

These are just a handful of the reasons the wealthy have been leaving the UK in droves.

Will the UK’s latest crypto crackdown be the final red flag for many?

If this resonates with you, please take a few minutes to read this important letter.
