I’m a husband, a son, and a father. Witnessing the devastating fires in California reminds us all how fragile the world is.

Let's do an exercise together:

Close your eyes. Imagine you have one hour—maybe even half an hour—to grab your spouse and children and evacuate.

Do you know where they are? If not at home, how far away are they?

What about the cat or the dog? What about your elderly parents?

Ask yourself what is more important: essential documents or photos, your laptop, or your child’s handmade arts and crafts.

Do you bother locking the door?

Do you know where you should evacuate?

Do you think you could move faster than nature’s fury?

My good friend Marc Clair, the Director of Content and Marketing here at Expat Money, and many people in Florida last year had to ask themselves this question when attempting to outrun a devastating hurricane.

Sometimes, we can’t prepare for everything in life…

But we can prepare for the worst-case scenarios and give our families options should the worst happen.

An offshore Plan-B can prevent nightmares from turning into realities. I hope your family, like mine, has your Plan-B in order.
