This One Email Changed a Family’s Future Overnight

Apr 27, 2026 12:06 pm

I know I write to you guys often…

but the conversation I had a few days back with a client of mine was a perfect example of why even missing a single email I send you can have real, tangible consequences if you don’t take the time to read them.

I was speaking with a client from Western Europe, and the conversation really reinforced just how important the work we do here at Expat Money actually is.

The person I spoke with had already taken a number of steps to position his family offshore… and, like many of the people I work with, he wasn’t in this alone.

He has a wife and a young son.

…and while he himself was all-in when it came to building out his Plan-B options, his partner wasn’t quite there yet…

Not opposed, not dismissive, and certainly not against the idea in principle, but not fully convinced that it was something they needed to act on seriously right now.

This is quite common, if I’m being frank; one person sees it clearly and feels the urgency, while the other needs a little more time or needs something that makes it real enough for them to move from “interesting idea, my love” to “ok, I get why you’re soon keen on doing this now”.

…then we sent out that email last week.

The one about German men between the ages of 18 and 45 needing to get permission to leave the country for more than three months.

Now, to be clear, their son is still young, and they don’t even live in Germany.

But that’s NOT how smart, forward-thinking people evaluate policies like this.

Smart people like you and I don’t evaluate consequential policy changes through the lens of today… we know to look at them through the lens of future trajectory.

When you see a policy like the one in Germany that is being introduced, the correct question isn’t “does this affect us immediately,” but rather it’s: what does this look like in five years, or ten years, and what position are we in if things continue in this direction?”

Thankfully, that email was the turning point because it made things deathly real for my client's spouse in a way that no conversation or news had up to that point.

The email I wrote to you guys a week or two back helped her clearly see how government decisions can result in life or death for your family… things like your children being expected to show up and fight a war one day.

Once that realization landed, family alignment quickly followed.

I am beyond proud to share that they’re now moving forward together, making decisions as a unit, and taking steps that put them in control of where they are positioned rather than leaving that outcome up to whatever direction things happen to take.

The work we do, the conversations we have, and the emails we send out are about helping people see things clearly enough to make decisions that actually matter for the safety of the entire family.

Once that clarity is there and once people understand not just what is happening, but where things are heading (and how it could affect them personally), the quality and speed of their decisions change completely.

That’s what this is about, and that’s why I encourage you guys to pay close attention to what I write you.

…there is no telling when something I share can fundamentally alter your lives (for the better).

If you’re starting to see things differently, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to step up and do whatever you can to help those “who may not quite be there yet”, to get there.

In my world, that starts with reading this important letter here: ExpatMoney.com/Important-Letter

Obviously, it’s not always a matter of life or death… but as we just saw, it certainly can be.

Read the important letter carefully, and if you agree with what I say and how I see the world, you’ll know what you need to do next.

Speak soon,

Mikkel
