The Tragic Death of Charlie Kirk
Sep 15, 2025 12:06 pm
In a group chat with a group of friends last week, several from the United States shared the shocking footage of the blatant, public assassination of American conservative activist, Charlie Kirk.
By now, if you’ve been on social media at all since this occurred, the news and reports of his death have captured the attention of the world.
The video footage of his final moments is haunting, and one of the most disturbing acts of violence I can recall witnessing.
I wasn’t personally familiar with Kirk prior to this, so my American friends brought me up to speed on who he is and why he had captured the attention of millions of young people.
Charlie Kirk was known for walking into the belly of the beast—college campuses—and inviting woke students to debate him.
He always did so with class, grace, and from a place of love.
He believed something dangerous:
That free speech means everyone gets a turn. Even the unpopular. Especially the unpopular.
In the West, this was once considered sacred.
Not anymore.
Kirk believed that when people stop talking to each other, that is when society begins to tear itself apart.
Sadly, it seems his worst fears are now coming true in the United States and much of the West.
His philosophical opposition couldn’t stand to debate him; they couldn’t tolerate that he had views different from theirs, so someone took it upon themselves to commit a heinous act.
An American citizen was killed in broad daylight on an American college campus because he dared speak his mind.
A coward, a killer, took away a son, a husband, a father and a friend.
The killer did not simply murder Charlie Kirk; they killed the notion that in the U.S., it’s safe to be yourself and speak your mind.
For my American friends, you know this too well…
Since 2020, the signs have been clear.
America is moving down a dangerous road, one where political rhetoric is all too quickly turning into very real violence.
One of my American friends, who is close to Kirk’s age and followed his rise as a public figure from the very beginning, shared his thoughts on the situation.
“I fundamentally believe my country is broken”, he said.
I responded that maybe it’s time to leave…
“Yes”, was all he replied.
Freedom-loving Americans in particular can now see the violent steps that some are willing to take - and many more are happy to celebrate - when you espouse views they disagree with.
If you’re tired and fearful of the direction the U.S. is headed, I strongly recommend reading this important letter.
Speak soon,
Mikkel
