What the Blue Jays Taught Us

image

It's taken a few days and some waking up in the middle of the night flashbacks of losing in Game 7 to come to the realization: We didn’t just watch the Blue Jays — we learned from them.

We won far more than we lost.

Between the strikeouts and comebacks came lessons that fit right into our philosophy as a family, and my philosophy as a coach in my business.

1️⃣ Preparation Wins Games (and Mornings)

Athletes don’t skip warm-ups, and neither should we. Whether it’s a 6:30 a.m. workout or a work presentation, preparation builds confidence. The best days start with movement — not the snooze button. We start everyday with incredible fitness classes live, always recorded - and I am better for it.

2️⃣ Every Slump Has an End

Even the pros strike out. What matters is stepping back up to the plate. When motivation dips, I remind my kids — and my FITFAM — that growth happens when you keep showing up, not when everything feels easy. That's hard when the weather turns, or you just don't want to do it. Do it anyway.

3️⃣ Teamwork Beats Talent

No one wins alone. The Jays’ chemistry proves that collective energy matters more than any single stat line. In fitness, community is our secret weapon. My FITFAM lifts each other higher — literally and figuratively.

4️⃣ Recovery Is Strategy

Rest isn’t weakness — it’s science. The Jays rotate players to avoid burnout; we build rest days into our training to recover stronger. Sleep, mobility, and mindfulness are how you play the long game. I used to be a coach who embodied harder, faster, stronger. Now, I am in it for the long game.

5️⃣ Mindset Is a Muscle

Every pitch, every play — you can see mental toughness in motion. That’s what fitness trains, too. Discipline. Focus. Grit. Train your body, but train your mind harder. The DOSE chemicals - Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, Endorphins - are very real and I couldn't do life without them.

6️⃣ Coaching Counts

The best leaders don’t bark orders; they believe in you before you believe in yourself. Whether it’s a coach, a teacher, or your morning instructor on Zoom — great coaching changes the game. Everyone needs a coach in their corner. Every interview John Schneider dropped F bombs...and also love for his boys.

7️⃣ Celebrate the Singles

You don’t need to hit home runs to make progress. Every time Ernie Clement walked up to bat, I knew we could get on base - usually a double. Small wins, small steps — that’s how health is built, too. If you are inactive, it takes one workout, and then another, and another. Consistency is the true MVP.

8️⃣ You Can’t Control the Umpire

Bad calls happen — in games, in parenting, in life. What you can control is your response. Attitude is everything, and it’s 100% within our power. Grudges drain us of our joy. Move onto the next play.

9️⃣ Fans Make the Game Fun

The crowd brings energy. In fitness, our “fans” are our community — the people who cheer when you hit that PR, finish that class, or just show up on a tough day. Connection turns effort into joy.

🔟 Keep Swinging

Because the only way to strike out in life or fitness is to stop trying. Every rep, every setback, every new attempt — that’s how we grow. Keep swinging, because your next hit could change everything.

Baseball became our metaphor for life: showing up, staying grounded, and celebrating every small win.

Because in fitness — like in baseball — the real victories come from consistency, community, and heart.
