Musings on Fantasy and Science Fiction

Hello,
Do you ever wonder about how fantasy and science fiction often get lumped together as a single genre? Maybe it's just me, but I oscillate between being annoyed, because they are clearly different genres... to being on-board.
Sure, at each end of the spectrum, the two genres can look very different. Think about hard science fiction, like The Martian, compared to classic high fantasy, like The Lord of the Rings. But everything in between can get blurry...
Yes, Star Wars has space ships, but it also has sword-wielding wizards (reminds me of Gandalf). Avatar: the Last Airbender is set in a high fantasy world, but they have tanks. The Kiynan Chronicles is clearly in the fantasy camp, but even there, I threw in a bit of steampunk (mainly in Spire). It is an element I will probably expand on in the future as well. Book 4 perhaps?
Ultimately, both genres are about imagining a different world, which is why I love them equally. And why I intend to throw myself into creating a science fiction series down the road... Once The Kiynan Chronicles is at least a complete trilogy, that is.
What do you think? Do you generally prefer fantasy, science fiction or both?
That's all for now! Until next time, take care!
Cheers,
