Some like it hot...

Between the Pages
Hi
Have you ever wondered how the heat level for different books is defined? It is something that has confused me at times, but there is a commonly agreed table. The lowest flame score has absolutely no sex scenes and minimal physical contact, except for a chaste kiss.
Five flames is definitely erotic, with graphic descriptions of the sex scenes and activities that the various characters get up to (may be educational for some!). My stories tend to vary between two and three flames, and I focus on the development of the relationship.
The list below gives more detail about the various heat levels.
One Flame - also called sweet, plenty of emotion but no undressing on the page, the bedroom door is closed and any sexual activity takes place in private behind that door.
Two Flames - More sensual and some sizzle. Lots of kissing, sexy talk isn't graphic, focus is on the feelings rather than body parts, love-making is implied not described, feels sexy and full of heart.
Three Flames - Steamy, sexy, spicy, hot. Most contemporary romance falls into this category. Some graphic sex scenes on the page with language to match, but the focus is on the relationship.
Four Flames - explicit sex and sex talk, may involve sex toys, some mild BDSM. Sex is used to further the story in intimate detail.
Five Flames - Erotic romance. Sex is used to further the emotional journey. Graphic language, explicit sex, may involve BDSM, sex toys, and multiple partners.

What I'm up to...
Today I delivered a workshop at one of the local libraries on self-publishing. There is a lot of information to deliver in the course of two hours, but it was a great session with people hoping to write and publish in a range of genres, ranging from family history to children's books and different areas of fiction.
As for writing, I'm working on the prequel to the Harrow Series. I hope to have it finished by the end of October, and initially it will be printed in an anthology to be released early 2023. When the anthology has run its course, I will release the story separately. I'll keep you posted on progress.

***A Second Chance, Small Town Romance***
You don't automatically belong, you have to earn your place in Sutton HIll.
Jamie
Everyone told me he wasn't worth it,
but I didn't listen.
They say you'll never forget your first love,
Yet I'll never want anyone more than I do Sam.
I don't know what it was but from the first moment I saw him,
it was like an out of body experience
Not that it mattered.
At least his family thought so.
So why isn't he fighting harder for me?
Sam
Living in Sutton Hill and coming from a famous family,
I have a lot of people depending on me.
With that comes frequent obligations,
things Jamie doesn't seem to quite understand.
I have a reputation to uphold and people to appease.
I come from a town full of judgmental people,
with opinions louder than a rock concert.
To give her the chance she deserves,
I have to slowly ease her in.
It requires patience and trust,
so why doesn't she believe me?

How do you read your emails? If you simply skim the visible information in the email without actually opening it, the email provider thinks that you have no interest in the email. After this happens on several occasions, your newsletter subscription is labelled 'inactive' by the company. and emails will no longer be sent to you.
If you still want the option of receiving the newsletters, even if you don't read them all, it's a good idea to open every other email, just to maintain your registration.
