Quince paste anyone?

Between the Pages

Dear

Sometimes I need a break from writing. A friend gave me some quinces off her tree and today was the day I decided they needed to be turned into quince paste. Without a functional kitchen yet, this was a challenge, but I started the mixture off in the slow cooker, and once some of the liquid had boiled off and the volume reduced in size, I transferred it to an electric saucepan.

Did I mention I’m hanging out for my kitchen to be built?

It’s a bit sticky but didn’t turn out too badly. I have cut it up into chunks, and the pieces I don’t give to friends will be eaten with crackers and cheese. Yum.

If you’d like the recipe, it can be downloaded here from Google Drive in pdf form. For interest, I added some chopped dried figs and chunks of pineapple.

Let me know how yours turns out.

Vale Kitty

Last newsletter, I featured Kitty, my lovely black cat who had reached the grand age of twenty-one years. I enjoyed the responses I received telling me about other furry friends

Sadly, her health declined rapidly in the last week and I could see she was in significant discomfort and distress. My son and I took her on that last visit to the Vet and a few tears were shed along the way. She brought much joy over the years.

New Sandy Bay Series

You may have read my short story, Secrets in Sandy Bay. Inspired by the feedback I’ve had for this story, I’ve decided to write a series based around the small coastal village of Sandy Bay, and the adjoining town of Pt Reilly.

I’m currently working on a Christmas-themed story set in the town, and have a seasoned romance in the planning stages. (Seasoned romance features a more mature couple.)

Are there any particular themes that you enjoy and would like to read about? Drop me a line and let me know. Perhaps your idea will turn up in print.

If you haven’t read Secrets in Sandy Bay, it is available for free on most ebook retailers, though Amazon is still in the process of reducing the price. That should occur in the next 24 hours. It can be downloaded here. If you encounter problems, let me know.

In the O’Brian trilogy, book one introduces Connor O’Brian, a hard-working Irishman who wants nothing to do with women or romance. He was burned once, and that was enough. But for years, he has dreamt of one particular woman. He doesn’t know the sound of her voice, but he knows the sound of her heart, and it’s broken. He doesn’t know who she is or if she even exists, but she is the only one he would chase to the ends of the earth.

Darcie Hartwell is led to Ireland, unknowingly, by the mystical power of fate and the ghost of her ancestor. She's not looking for adventure, love, or even friends. She only wants a peaceful life for herself and a fresh start. However, Darcie quickly finds out that fate has other plans for her. When she falls into Connor O’Brian’s waiting arms, everything changes. But she has a secret and a past that haunts her and has been hiding for years. She no longer knows who she is, but she will soon find out.
