Evolution of the Harrow Series
For more than two decades, I was registered as a marriage celebrant in Australia. For those of you in other countries, celebrants are appointed under federal legislation, after completing relevant studies and satisfying a range of qualifying criteria.
The weddings I conducted ranged from simple affairs with a handful of witnesses, to major events with full fanfare. I also was asked to conduct handfasting ceremonies, and those with an earth ritual focus. In time, I learned a lot about the ceremonies and the wiccan beliefs that supported them. On occasions, I also conducted baby naming ceremonies or even a funeral with reference to the elements of earth, fire, air and water and the spirits that guided them.
Wild Destiny was first published as Wild Orchid, and was my contribution to a paranormal boxset (Romance with a Bite). Although the other authors wrote mostly of vampires or banshees, I wasn’t comfortable writing about themes I rarely read. The story was required to contain something with a bite, and so this story evolved.
Yes, there are magical creatures and one of them definitely has a bite, but there is no blood sucking in this tale. Instead, I called on my knowledge of wiccan beliefs and wrote about a Clan that lives in a small village in the hills surrounding Adelaide. Theirs is a way of life lead with respect for the earth that supports them and with reference to the passing seasons. There is still passion and drama in those hills, and evil where you least expect it.
The story has become the first in the Harrow series, with Wild Tempest and Wild Fire still to come.
