Still Travelling. I was in Morocco in the previous newsletter. Since then, I have continued travels in Morocco, crossed the Strait of Gibralta to Spain, spent time in Portugal, and am now in Tours in France. I left Lisbon just over a week ago still in a T-Shirt, and today it is around five degrees. The tip of my nose feels continually moist, and my hands freeze when not in gloves.

I have climbed more stairs than I wanted, and squeezed myself into microscopic bathrooms in my accommodation. Those of you who have travelled through countries like Morocco, Italy, Spain and Portugal will know what I mean. I have also met some wonderful people and travelled through interesting countryside. The light is different to Australia in this part of the world, and now some of the landscapes depicted in European paintings make more sense.
Every city is now in Christmas mood, and that means lots of coloured lights, and Christmas markets. I have cruised the markets and sampled some of the seasonal treats. The favourite so far has been drinking the Portuguese Ginja (tastes like cherry brandy) out of small chocolate cups, which are promptly eaten.

What have I been reading?
I’ve been sitting on lots of trains in recent weeks, giving me reading time. I have reading apps on my phone, so I can continue reading a book wherever I am. I have the app on my laptop as well, and can switch between the two devices for the same book.
Very convenient. I have been binging on crime and suspense. Long Time Gone, by Charlie Donlea was good, and kept my reading past my bedtime. (I read in other places besides the train.) The Butterfly Garden, by Rachel Burton was a well-written tale that combined historical romance with contemporary mystery. Recommend either for additional holiday reading.
