August 2023 Newsletter

This is Justin with our latest newsletter!

Current Events

I can't believe how fast this year has flown by. All of a sudden we are now approaching the end of summer (at least here in the Northeast US) and the beginning of fall (yay for pumpkin spice!).

Speaking of fall, Ashley and I are hoping to get a vendor booth approved for the Sugar Loaf Fall Festival, which will take place on Saturday October 7th and Sunday October 8th. Our last community event was a live book read that Ashley did for a local elementary school back in December to promote Manju's Kerala Christmas, which was really fun!

Writing Updates

I'm continuing on the editing process with Shades of Resilience, but lately have fallen behind. We are fully in back-to-school mode with both our kids, so some projects have been shuffled down the queue. Hopefully things will get back on track within a few weeks.

Ashley has been making progress with our illustrator for the "Heart Warrior" poem book. The first batch of drawings had both of us very emotional. I can't wait to share some previews!

Our garden has not done very well this year. With the erratic late spring frosts, drought and then the severe storms, I just think our poor plants are simply confused. While the other crops haven't yielded much, our zucchinis have been very plentiful. Zucchinis are very versatile. Between roasting them on a grill, to baking them in breads, there is no shortage of uses. Ashley baked this amazing zucchini bread a few weeks ago and it vanished as quickly as she placed it on the counter to cool. This is also an ingenious way to sneak those veggies in (for both kids and adults!).

Happy Writing!
