Commutation
Currents induced in the armature conductors of a DC Generator are alternating. To make their flow unidirectional in the external circuit we use a Commutator. This process by which current in the short-circuited coil is reversed while it crosses the M.N.A is called Commutation. The period during which coil remains short-circuited is known as the commutation period Tc.
Types of Magnet and Magnetism
Different materials can be classified as either magnetic materials(iron, steel, etc) or non - magnetic materials (air, glass, wood, etc). Even though these non-magnetic materials cannot be magnetized, they allow the magnetic flux to pass through them. Magnetic materials may be further subdivided into three groups as regards their magnetic properties.
